Evaluation Study

We are currently recruiting for our evaluation study, due to begin in June/July 2021

About the study

Log My Scan is an innovative mobile application (APP) to facilitate the learning and practice of point-of-care ultrasound (PoCUS). It has been developed by a group of researchers at Teesside University, Middlesbrough, as an educational resource. It is envisaged that the APP will enable users to consolidate their PoCUS activity in an easy to use electronic log book, which incorporates a range of useful features. There is a paucity of such a resource at present. It is hoped that by using this APP, trainees may reduce the time taken to achieve competency and also the likelihood of actually completing training following attending a course.

In order to be successful, the APP must be aligned with what users want, incorporate useful features and be easy to navigate. Additionally, it needs to adhere to any requirements regarding security and data protection.

This study is intended to evaluate a number of areas:

  1.  Were you able to use the APP?
  2. Did you consider the APP to be a useful educational tool?
  3. Did you have any concerns regarding security and data storage?
  4. What features should be incorporated in the APP?
  5. An opportunity for you to comment on any other areas.

For the purposes of this study, the version of the APP we are using will not be the final released public version as we will aiming for continual improvements and enhancement of features.

Who can take part?

In order that you can take part you meet one of the criteria below:

  • You have completed initial training (i.e. either via attending a course or modular training) in emergency medicine (Core/Level 1) or intensive care (FICE/CUSIC/FUSIC) ultrasound - whatever is relevant for you;
  • You are working towards, or have completed, competencies in emergency medicine (Core/Level 1) or intensive care (FICE/CUSIC/FUSIC) ultrasound.

Unfortunately, you CANNOT TAKE part if:

  • You are a staff member of Teesside University;
  • You have not completed initial training in emergency medicine (Core/Level 1) or intensive care (FICE/CUSIC/FUSIC) ultrasound - whatever is relevant for you.

Don't worry if you cannot take part on this occasion, the future released version of the LogMyScan APP will be continuously evolving to cater for any user of point-of-care ultrasound, no matter what specialty or grade you are. The study version of the APP is limited on purpose in order for us to test various aspects.

Thank you for the interest but unfortunately study recruitment is currently closed.
